Universal Studio - Kongfrontation
April 13, 2000
- Kong stands 32 feet tall. His arm span from fingertip to fingertip is 54 feet. (If he wore shoes, they would be size 65 EEEEEEEEEE.)
- There are actually two Kongs in the attraction. The "street" Kong weighs 13,000 pounds and the "bridge" Kong weighs 8,000 pounds. (Weights are estimates -- we haven't yet found a bathroom scale big enough to weigh them.)
- Marvels of both analog and digital technology, the two mechanical Kongs can perform 62 separate functions (although climbing the Empire State Building is not one of them).
- The military attack helicopters are molded from actual helicopters and are true to life size.
- At 35,000 square feet, the Kongfrontation® soundstage is one of the largest in the world.
- The exterior wall concrete slabs are the largest concrete slabs ever constructed.
- Inside show scenes consist of 50 separate facades modeled after Manhattan's Lower East Side in the year 1976 (the year of the remake of King Kong starring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange).
- A "smeltzer" device is used to create the scent of Kong's banana breath. (No actual bananas were harmed in the creation of this attraction.)
